Group 3: First Post

Hey everyone,

Being the first post for group three's role in the Awesome Foundation Project I feel that I should go over what our goals are and specific ways we can reach them.
Group three's role is to advertise the project we will have chose so that our "awesome" project will actually be used or taken advantage of in a community. Another role our group has is to prepare us for the presentation we will be having on January 4th in front of the trustees. Of course, all of us will be participating in this part of the project, but I feel as though group three should be responsible for how to organize the presentation. Please feel free to disagree and comment if you have a better idea.
Some ideas we had for advertising our project is to give each person in our group a specific medium to advertise with. Whether that be flyers, email, social media, word of mouth, posters..etc. I feel like this would be the most effective way to complete our part of this project. We would be able to work on a specific part of advertising, which seems more efficient and more likely to be completed on time. Of course there will be collaborating between each of the people in group three as well as the rest of our class. It would be greatly appreciated if any of you had any ideas or questions that could help our group out.

Thanks Friends!

  1. I think it would be cool to advertise the final project by creating a video. This might mean that we start filming when we are doing concrete work as a group, or other groups in action. Also, when the recipient finalizes their project, we can get some clips of the area that is being helped if we can't get footage of them actually working on it. This medium of advertisement wouldn't just be a specific person; it would require a group effort.

Also, question: what can we be doing in the upcoming weeks while the application is being created?

  2. I would be more than happy to offer up my camera and such if that would help for the video. I really like the video idea. We could interview different people and then finish it with the winner and what they're doing.

I do have a very thin connection with someone at KPCC so tomorrow during our class time I can try to get in contact with them to see if they'd be interested in what we're doing.

  3. I also think the video would be a good idea. Have you guys discussed what mediums you will be using for advertising?

  4. We haven't gone into depth with what mediums but it looks like the video idea is one so far. Also, Audrey posted for group 1 about having a logo. Maybe we could gorilla style market with the logo... I don't know... just a thought..

  5. It might be worth exploring how the Awesome foundation has advertised their own projects in the past to give us some idea of what works and what does not. Might kick start some more thoughts besides the video which is a great idea in itself.

  6. I agree with Conor! Maybe the Awesome Foundation is looking for some certain style for the winner to be presented. I know a bunch of people have connections, but someone asked me today if I could talk to my dad about advertisement within the LATimes or something along those lines and I will check back in about that later

  7. On the video front, maybe we should ask the recipient whether they would take a video of the important steps of their process. They do a video check in for each step, then you just have to edit their videos together. I don't know whether this project will happen next year, I guess it will depend on how well we do this year, but if it does happen next year it would be helpful to have a video narrating what a recipient did. Great idea!

  8. I think that it would be extremely beneficial for group three to tackle the media aspect of the project and be really active in reaching out to news companies and newspapers so that we can really get the word out there about the project and so that we can have as much coverage as possible for the winner and what project is chosen.
